    About 22 years ago, a man named Robert Seargent was going from town to a farm-house on the Ballymore road at a very late hour. According to the stories of the people a huge black dog was seen every night, and it was supposed to be a ghost. People were so much frightened that they would not traverse the road after midnight. On this particular night Mr. Seargent walked along whistling, he was in a happy frame of mind, drinking in the beauty of the silent night. Suddenly he remembered the black dog, and on hearing a noise behind him, he turned quickly around, and there sitting on the path was the ghostily animal its eyes staring like pools of fire. A tiny stream seperated Mr. Seargent and the dog and as tradition has it a ghost will not cross water. Then the man whistled and called the spectre to him, but it immediately faded from sight, it eventually disappeared through the trees behind it.
