  1. Bread.
    The old people used to make griddle-bread on a flat piece of iron called a griddle.
    they used to eat bread at their breakfast and dinner, and boiled potatoes for their supper. They also used to make wheaten bread.
    Long ago people used to make butter, and hide it in the bog, for safety, because the "Landlords" would take it from them, if they owed them rent.
    They used to go every month across the mountain to Castlecomer to meet buyers.
    They used to carry the butter in firkins on their heads, and they used to stay there for three days.
