There was an old night-school in Durrow, and a man named Denis O Rourke taught in it. He is now dead. Every pupil had to take twopence every night. This school dates back to about forty years ago. It was in the night time this school was held, and pupils of thirteen to twenty attended as improvers. This happened before compulsory education was brought into force. He taught in his own house.
In Clough there was another night-schol taught by a teacher named Mr. O Connell. He also taught in the National School there. He held this school about thirty years ago. This man is now dead.
