- (continued from previous page)The "nunnery field" is a field owned by Mr Joe Whyte Belmount. During the troubled times, a community of nuns came there and established a convent. The ruins of this building are still to be seen in this field, and it is known as the "nunnery field". This field is situated about a mile and a half from where I live. It is in the neighbourhood of Gurteen.
The Rampart field is owned by Mr Collier, prospect. There is a mound surrounding this field and in former times it was supposed to be a place of fortification. It is situated on the side of the road leading form Cullohill to Ballykealy.
"Glashare field" is a field owned by Mr Lawrence Kenny, Raheenleigh. It is so called because there was a battle fought between the Leinster and Connaught men there and it is said, the stream was red with blood. Glashare means stream of slaughter. It is on the side of the road leading from Cork to Johnstown.(continues on next page)- Collector
