    door of the Mass Pit. There was also one in Granafollia about one and a half miles from Abbeyleix.
    Not far from the Catholic Church Raheen there is a Mass Pit where the people used to assemble to hear Mass during the penal laws when the priests were forbidden to say it in the churches.
    One Sunday as the priest was celebrating mass in the pit a crowd of yeomen came along one of the shouted "there he is" pointing to the priest
