    the vill have to churn for a minute because she says if they didn't they would take the butter out with them.
    When she has churned for about five minutes she puts warm water into the churn. That helps to shorten the time churning. Then she churns away for another while. When she thinks it should be done she gets a spoon and holds it to the handle of the dash while she churns away with one hand. Then she takes the spoon over to the window. She is able to know by looking at what's on the spoon whether it is done or not.
    When she is finished churning she gets a piece of wood and puts it under the side of the churn until the butter is gathhered together on the top of the milk. Then she "scalds" her hands. When she has her hands "scalded" she gathers it into
