    necessarily regarded as a great historical event in the annals of Ireland, and special mention is made of it in Keating's history of Ireland. By the decrees of Rathbreasail, Ireland was divided into twenty-four dioceses and two archbishoprics - Armagh and Cashel. The province of Ulster comprised Clogher Ardstran, Derry, Coner and Down. The province of Connaught counted five - Tuam, Clonfert, Cong, Killala, and Ardcarn. Munster was divided into six dioceses - Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Ardfert, Killaloe, and Emly; while Glendalough, Ferns, Kildare, Kilkenny, and Leighlin constituted Leinster, and the provinnce of Meath contained two dioceses. The Bishop of Dublin at that time received his consecration from the hands of the Archbishop of Canterbury in England under whose spiritual power he seems to have been.
