About twenty years ago a local man asked some more fellows to come to the Old Abbey some night to dig for the money so they agreed and brought lights and spades with them. When they were digging for about half an hour the man who has asked the others got very thirsty and had to go to a spring well near by to get a drink.
He came back to the others and asked them all to come home. They were scarcely able to get him home as he was in a very weak condition. The next night the same fellows went to the place where they were digging the night before. They lit their lamps and they went out and they could not keep them lit.
The Old Abbey is situated in Oldcourt in the Co. of Leix. It is a very ancient building and it is said that it was a monastery some years ago. There is one place and it is claimed six monks are buried there and in another place, convenient to that, there are a lot of Sacred vessels
