be married July is considered a very unlucky month to be married. Money is generally given as a dowry. Calves were often given as a fortune. Some bridegrooms go to the house of the bride the morning of the wedding before they go to chapel. People often dress up. They put on masks and dresses of all kinds and go miles to the house of the new married pair. There were people who had a wedding for eight days. Those people are Farrells Co. Carlow, and the road into the house was lined up with people.
