He was not long there till he heard fairy music, which, he thought, came from some subterranean channel. The next moment there appeared to him an old skinny witch-like creature. When she saw Sean she immediately pulled out a magical wand and with it changed Sean into a hare. Then by means of the same mysterious instrument she sent a hound pursuing him round and round the fort. Sean's cries for help could be heard far and near, but the more he cried the fiercer the hound pursued him. Just when he was on the point of being caught she transformed him back into his former self. With a bitterly sarcastic smile on her face she pointed towards Co. Roscommon, and said, "this is no place for cowards, get home as quickly as you can to your wife, who is waiting for you in Ballytrasna in the County Roscommon".
