    an approach, was seen farther down the road, and shortly a group of rough intoxicated soldiers arrived on the scene. They ordered the people home and treated the musician disgracefully. Nearby and hearing the commotion the mighty smith appeared, and singlehanded he defended all against thirty strong men. He left them huddled in a heap upon the ground, but, discovered that the one who assaulted the musician had vanished.
    One turning around, he saw disappearing around the bend, the man who had beaten the musician and immediately chased him. However, the soldier reached Boyle barracks safely and ordered the gates to be barred and left ten sentry on duty. The smith at length arrived and with one push of his mighty shoulders he sent the gates groaning and creaking to the ground. The sentries fearing that they had to battle with half the countryside fled, leaving a clean passage for the smith.
    He entered and very soon found his ally. Taking him he marched him to the water's edge and dipped him in the cold waters of the Boyle. Then he released him
