(continued from previous page)him the hen. Then John peeped out of his hiding place. He saw the wonderful hen and the golden egg. John knew it was his father's hen. Then he waited untill the Giant was fast asleep. John jumped out of his hiding place caught the hen and ran home with her. While running through the room he happened to knock down a chair. He awakened the Giant. He jumped up and ran after John, as fast as he could John ran down the bean-stalk. At this time the Giant was half way down the beanstalk, but John was down before him. When he reached the ground he got a big axe and cut down the beanstalk. The Giant fell to the ground and never got up again. Then John went home with his wonderful hen. When his mother came in and saw John with the wonderful hen she was much pleased. This hen left John and his mother very rich after four or five months. Her golden eggs were known far and side.
