    Ever for Erin their banner shone brightly,
    Ever for freedom and honour they stood.
    Changed by the spell of her magic transforming,
    Pledging their troth to the land they had gained;
    Won by her beauty bewitching and warming,
    Norman they came but as Irish remained.

    Now lies their home with the meadow flowers level,
    Sunk are the walls that once sheltered the bold;
    Hushed is the sound of the harping and revel,
    Linnets are singing where bards sang of old
    Mantles with verdure the place of their pride:
    Breath we a prayer for the lords of De Nangle -,
    True men who lived for their country and died.
