- In the olden times there we no schools like the present ones. The teachers generally taught in their own little houses or sometimes there were old schools called ''hedgeschools''. However there were none in this district and consequently the children were taught in the teacher houses. Teachers were not paid by the Government long ago but each pupil paid school fees. The teacher were not as good as present ones and they did not teach any Irish. The teachers around this district were - Miss Fox, Bally more, Strokestown, Master Dempsey, Tuam, Kilrooskey. Master Nearney, Fairymount, Kilrooskey and Master Keating, Caramoneen, Kilrooskey.
Miss Fox lived in Ballymore. She was teaching in her own little cottage for eight years. Master Dempsey was teaching in his own home from 1869-1879(continues on next page)- Collector
