There is an island situated in the river which seperates Leabeg from Cloonruff. In olden times there was a big law-suit between the two land-lords. Irwin who owned Leabeg, and Baggot who owned Cloonruff, at that time to decide, as to who was the rightful owner. It cost roughly about £7,000 pounds. Irwin won the case and became the owner of the island. Its length is about six perches, and its breath varies from one perch to one yard.
It is said that there was a grave yard in Peter Dwyer’s bottoms, in olden times. Pollien Gaffey is a place in the river inside of the island. Pollipin Span is a name of the river also. Clan na h-inġini is a field in our land Gorṫ na Mullaċ is at the end of Edward Walsh’s, Edward Keane’s and Peter Dwyer’s land.
Poillin Gaffey is so called because three brothers named Gaffey were drowned there. Instead of going to Mass they went swimming and were drowned during Mass time.
