On a sale being effected money is given by the seller to the buyer which is called "luckspenny" while on the other hand the buyer often times the beast by paying what is called "earnest money" beforehand to prevent the seller reselling if he gets a better offer.
When a buyer wishes to purchase a beast he comes along, vets it, and asks what money is expected. The answer is generally £1 or £2 more than the beast is worth. The buyer offers his price.
Sometimes he walks away, and if any friends of the seller are in the vicinity they try to "split the difference". Hands are then struck and the bargain is concluded.
