    thatched. The most of them were thatched with wheaten straw.
    The fire used to be in the centre and gable of the house.
    There were no chimneys on some of the houses long ago but a hole in the roof of the house.
    Most people had no glass in the houses as there was a tax on each pane of glass.
    The fire was made of turf. There used to be half-doors on the houses long ago. The lights they had were candles made from rushes dipped in grease.
