  1. About forty years ago toll was paid in Ballydehob, but it is not paid there now. It was collected by a landlord living in Ballydehob named Robert Swanton. People objected to paying it. They used to rush the cattle past the collectors usually two or three. The difficulty of collecting was so great that Swanton ceased trying to collect it. When cattle are sold luck is given back to the buyers. The luck is kept out of the price of the beast
