- Long ago the monks from the Quaker Island used to meet the Roscommon monks and they used to pray where St Dermots well is now. One day St Dermot was praying and he got sleepy he spied a little stream of water and he washed his eyes in it and a well sprang up. He said "This water will be good for the eyes" and it is believed that it is a good cure for sore eyes. People who have sore eyes come there and say certain prayers and wash their eyes in that water get cured.
