    appointment was parish priest of the joint parishes of Kilcroan and Glinsk. On this occasion his relations with the Burkes of Glinisk Castle became more friendly. In 1810 Dr Burke was appointed coadjutor Bishop of Elphin and on the death of Most Rev Dr French in 1827 he became Bishop of the Diocese.
    On his elevation to the dignity of Bishop he resided at Finisklin, Sligo, where he gave great courage and consolation to the people during the dreadful epidemic of cholera in 1832. After some years he left Finisklin and settled in Turlo near Ballymoe where he resided until his death in 1843.
