- Local CuresAbout 40 or 45 years ago people had cures of their own because there were not many doctors, and education was not so general as it now is.
These old cures very often cured a great many diseases, aches, and pains.
A toothache it is said, will go if you rub a dead person’s finger on the gum or if you carry a sheep’s tooth in you pocket.
A sty was cured by pointing to it eight gooseberry thorns eight times and then throwing the ninth over your left shoulder.
Rheumatism was cured by carrying a raw potato in one's back pocket.
