    Downey living in Ballydonegan. One time when the soldiers came here persecuting the catholics he fled to Spain where he was eduacated and ordained. There was one of the O Sullivan Beares put in his charge as the boys parents were dead. When the boy grew up he joined the Spanish army. After a few years in the army he thought of visiting his native home. But Father Downey did not want to let him go as he knew the English were watching for all Catholics and that boy was a Catholic but O Sullivan persisted on going so Fr Downey came with him. They landed in Killmiciloge on the boundary between Cork and Kerry. They went from there on horse back to Finnaha and then they came across Cnoc Fuara to Coom there they remaind hiding from the English soldiers. On Christmas night Fr Downey arranged to have a midnight Mass in Killmiciloge afew days before. Two days before Christmas a heavy shower of snow fell over all the surrounding country.
