- The worst storm witnessed locally within living memory is the one commonly referred to as " The Storm of the Calf Rock ".The Calf Rock is one of a group - the Bull, Cow and Calf; or Tigh Duinn, Muclach(?) agus Giodach respectively in Irish - situated off Dursey Head.A storm arose on and knocked the Lighthouse on the Calf. The five occupants took shelter in a little cubicle hewn out of the rock - managed to reach it between two waves. Were marooned there for a week under the waves, wet, foodless, waterless - ventilation supplied by opening iron door occasionally between waves(continues on next page)
