    On a fine November's day the lorries left Macroom.

    On a fine November's day the lorries left Macroom
    The Black and Tans they never thought they were so near their doom.
    The rifles they were ready as the lorries came along,
    The warriors they were singing "Rule Britannia" was their song.

    They said they would hunt the rebels and put the Irish down,
    And that was their intention when they started from the town;
    When they came along to Haremount Cross, the first salute they got,
    Was the bomb thrown in the lorry and the driver he was shot.

    The cracking of the rifels and the bursting of the bombs,
    Was something like the fighting at the
