  2. One of the beauty spots of far-farmed Killarney is Ross Castle, which stands in a commanding position over the lower lake. It was the last stronghold in Munster to hold out against the Cromwellian forces, and was held at this period by Dounagh McCarthy, Lord of Muskerry.
