    committed to prison. The authorities thereupon discovered a conspiracy to murder Mr Warren and for this three men were arrested and executed.
    A large reward had been offered for information that would lead to the conviction of the murderer of Mr Hutchinson, but so far this had produced no result The arrested men remained in custody, but while some were being conveyed to the Bridewell at Macroom one of the men intimated to a trooper that he wished to make a communication. This man was Malachy Duggan, who was promptly separated from the others and placed in a cell by himself. There he made a statement incriminating a number of persons. What the exact value of his confession was will never be determined, but that he knew of the details of the crime was
