- The holy well of Gougane is formed by the waters of the lake. It is a small stone enclosure, flagged overhead, to which the lake waters find admission beneath. In the old days there were two pilgrimages annually two Gougane, when crowds of men and women and children afflicated with various ailments and mains of person repaired to its healing water in the surve hope of being cured.The last hermitical occupant of Gougane was Fr.
