    the struggle but Leacht Ui Mhathghamhna, near Macroom. There Brian partly avenged the treacherous betrayal of his gallant brother, and added one more to the long list of the great victories which culminated on Clontarf's plans on Good Friday, 1014.
    Through Macroom, from Ardtullaig - his landing places on Kenmare Bay -marched Rinucinni and his train on their way to Kilkenny in 1645. Few who pass Macroom Castle today think of Rinuccinni and his victorious march. People go by unheeding; they look and do not see and do no realise; they are as those ignorant of botanical knowledge.
    A primrose by the river's brink
    A simple primrose is to them,
    And it is nothing more.
    The Castle is now in the possession of the Urban Council, and witnessed many a hard fought fight during Ireland's long struggle for freedom. It is supposed to have been erected by the O'Flynns, whose clan once owned extensive possession in Muskerry. They were disposed by Diarmuid McCarty Mor,
