- (continued from previous page)the conflict was short but bloody. The Bishop was captured and pardoned on condition that he use his influence in persuading the defenders of Carraigadrochid to surrender. That he promised to do. But let us first deal with the castle, then in ruins.
It was again rebuilt, and in it dwelt various of the invaders down almost to our day. Many were the tales told by the firesides around Macroom of the torture. The following is one of the most gruesome : in time of the Whiteboys the castle was occupied by Bob Hutchinson. In his employment was a man named Charles McCarty. Charles had two brothers Callaghan and Timothy. At that time the captain of the Whiteboys was one Malachy Duggan.
Malachy planned the assassination of Bob Hutchinson. It would appear that his motive was private spleen and he determined to make use of the Whiteboys.(continues on next page)- Collector
