Over a hundred years ago there dwelt near the lovely and awe-inspiring Céim an Fhiaidh, or " Pass of the Deer " ( Keimaneigh ) a middle-aged woman of the stock of Gaelic chieftains of Inchigeela, who thrilled the Irish-speaking people in their hour of bitter suffering with her songs of patriotic passion - songs of grief for the oppression of the Gaels and hatred for the oppressors - songs, withal, of hope and courage. She sang of the struggles and sufferings of 1898 and the Tithe War, and the " Battle of Céim an Fhiaidh " fought near her home - in which, for once, the Gaels stood up successfully against the soldiery - inspired her greatest(continues on next page)- Collector
