  1. Folk-Lore
    Long ago there lived in the Parish of Baslick three brothers whose names were Brian Ur, and Urear. The King of Ireland sent for them and laid them a task. He said to them away in the east of the world where there grows a wonderful apple tree. No other tree has fruit like it and the apples have power to heal any wound and cure any sickness. "Go now" he said and "bring me three of those apples."It will not be easy for you to get the apples because the King of the east who owns them has heard that three young men from Eire will take those apples by force. He has set guard round the tree who will watch for your coming. The three brothers made haste to obey. They rowed away till they got beyond the shores of Eire and were soon on the open sea. The boat did not stop untill it reached the harbour near the garden where the magic apples grew. we must be wise and strong said Brian as they landed and they took the shape of three swift hawks. Then flying swiftly to the garden they began to come down in circles around the tree. The sharp eyed guards saw them and with a great shout
