    A battle is Supposed to have been fought in the immediate neighbourhood of the school...

    Several old graveyards are supposed to have existed in locality. Some years ago Patrick Flynn, Coolegarry (deceased) found human remains when excavating the foundation for the erection of a house.
    Human remains in large quanties were also found at Cam near the house of the late Thomas Butler.
    In connection with the bones found in fields adjoining school - some maintain that a great battle was fought - others that a large number of people were buried here in the famine times. The writer saw two skeletons being taken out in 1937. The quarrying of sand was then suspended.
