In olden times there was a man commissioned called a speaker to go to the house of any girl who intended to get married to entroduce the match. He used to demand about a hundred pounds as a fortune. If the intended father-in-law agreed the next thing that was to be done was the prospective bride's father to go to the house and count the cows tieings. If her father was short of stock he used to get the loan of a few from his neighbour for a few days and put them on the farm. If
