In olden times there was a man commissioned called a speaker to go to the house of any girl who intended to get married to entroduce the match. He used to demand about a hundred pounds as a fortune. If the intended father-in-law agreed the next thing that was to be done was the prospective bride's father to go to the house and count the cows tieings.
