- Up to a short time ago we had a timber pail. My grandmother says it was used for milk, and she often took a pail of milk up on her head to the bog for a "meithioll".
The wooden pail was narrow on top and wide at the bottom It had one long handle. It was made of very thin timber.
This timber pail was difficult to keep clean. Every night it had to be scalded well and rinsed in cold water. Then it used be turned on its mouth outside the door in the air, and be washed again in cold water in the morning before putting the milk in them.- Collector
