- In the townland of Lisnabrinna there is a place called "The Murder". According to local tradition this is how it got its name. Randal Óg Hurley the chieftain of Ballinacarriga had a lot of money. Hearing that his castle was about to be robbed he feared for the safety of his treasure. He told his wife find a hiding place for it.
She, accompanied by the servant boy who carried a spade, set off on horse back. They turned into a lane-way in Ardea, near where Mrs Uncles resides at present. They then crossed the fields until they came to a marshy tract, where they buried the treasure. They returned home, but were not gone far when the horse broke its leg by sinking in the soft boggy place. She then asked the boy if he would protect the gold through life and death, and he said he would. So she drew a gun and shot him dead.
The spade was found by his dead body with bog stuff adhering to it. Although(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
