   By the Brinny, gently flowing sweeps the Bandon rapid tide,
   Whose waters ere they mingle wash the Castle's rugged side
   Whose ivied walls, and ruined towers, once beautiful and grand
   Are sad remnants of the greatness of our once proud native land
   '' Tis twice two hundred years ago since Brry Óg did dwell.
   In his Castle at Downdaniel amid scenes he loved so well,
   And his little daughter Eibhlin, his darling and his pride,
   No fairer maid than she was there in all that countryside.

   And many the nighborn chieftain came, whose castle and broad land,
   He'd proudly lay at Eibhlin's feet if honoured with her hand;
