  1. (continued from previous page)
Before bridges were built there were stepping stones were placed over rivers; and after that timber bridges were made; there is a timber bridge near Ballinscarthy and there are two in Baurleigh one going along the road to Kilbrittan and one near Baurleigh school-house, where Ferguson was killed. Ferguson was living in Timoleague Rectory and the people hated him as he used to take one tenth of everything from the people. The people of Barryroe and Timoleague were going to Bandon fair and they saw Ferguson going across a field; so they resolved to kill him, they hunted him as far as Baurleigh bridge and there he jumped off a fence and sank in a hole and was killed.
