  1. A tract of country on the outskirts of Kinsale by the Bandon River is called Tissasson. It got its name from an ancient Monastery founded there in the 8th Centrury by Irish Monks.
    At this time there was a dispute between the Irish and the English with regard to the tonsure, also as to the time of the celebration of Easter. At length a council was held at Whitby at which it was decided that all Irish monks who would not yield on these two matters were to leave England and go back to their own country. They
