- (continued from previous page)The Plattern Dishes is a place in King James' Fort which is known as the Old Fort. The Plattern Dishes are flat rocks When the gentry used to come ashore there they used to have tea on those rocks and that is why they are called the Plattern Dishes.
The Long Bit is a place on the Low Road at this side of Ringrone Cross. It got its name because it is a long narrow field near the Five Stones.
The Diving Board is near the Block House in the Old Fort where people dive into the water when they are swimming.
The Block House is a place in the Old Fort. It got its name because block and tackle were made there.
The Batteries is a place near the Block House also. It got its name because the soldiers were stationed there in olden times and used to store powder and shot there.
Páirc na Croise is near the Pakeen in Castlepark and it means the Field of the Cross.
