    horse, but he was again doomed to failure for just as they had the Treasure at the top of the water the rope broke and down went the casket again. Several times afterwards he tried to recover the casket but always some unkind fate seemed to make Mac Carthy's efforts fail. The lake at that time was not as big as it is now and Mac Carthy had it drained so that he could recover the treasure more easily but when the day after he had had it drained dawned, the lake had mysteriously filled again.
    They say there is a lady in white guarding the treasure, and once every seven years she is seen in the tunnel watching for the seventh son of a seventh son to point out to him, the exact spot where the treasure is.
