- There was a great fire in Blarney Mills about 1870. It was caused by some hot ashes that fell on a timber floor from one of the old stoves of that time. It was the cause of burning a great part of the Mill and also much of the tweed, but the Mill was not as big then as it is now. It was when they were rebuilding it in the year 1870 that they made it so big. There were no lives endangered, but it was a great loss to Mahony Brothers.
