- The Blarney Stone is supposed to be a piece of the original Stone of Scone. When Edward Bruce, brother of King Robert of Scotland was fleeing from the English he came to Cormac Mac Carthy, King of Munster, for help. Cormac gave him 5,000 kerns and they went off to Scotland to help to beat the English at the Battle of Bannockburn. In return for this service Bruce sent him a piece of "Stone of Destiny" which had originally been taken from Tara, where it had reposed during the Golden Age in Ireland and this was kept in the castle when the keep was built.
