- There was a great storm in Ireland in 1839. People forecast the storm a few weeks before it actually took place. The wind began to blow very strongly one night.
It blew so fiercely that outhouses, trees and walls were blown about like feathers. A wood of Larch trees was levelled completely near Blarney. Many houses were blown down also. The wind was called "The Big Wind".
