- (continued from previous page)Aifrinn. It is Mr. O'Keeffe's land. Mass was said in that glen. Father McCarthy was saying mass in Gleann an Aifrinn one day, when the soldiers arrived and killed him. He is buried in Keeffe's land.
There is a red stain on the Mass Rock in Rockchapel, and, the old saying is, that a priest was killed by the soldiers, while saying mass at the rock, and that his blood fell upon the rock. - The names of the fields in my father's farm are:
Fenton's Field: So called because a man by the name of Fenton died there, the time of the Famine.
The Kiln Field: So called because there is a kiln there.
The Old Road Field: So called because an old road ran through it long ago.
Carney's Field: So called, because a man by the name of Carney lived there.
Scannell's Hill: So called because a man by the name of Scannell, lost his life on the hill during a snow(continues on next page)- Collector
