The Stagmount road runs from Mountcollins to Meelin, through Rockhill, and Knockafurtig. This is much an older road than the Line road, and part of it comprised the old Road to Cork, in olden times. The car-men took the butter to Cork this road. There was a road in this district hundreds of years ago, that there is scarcely any trace of now. It ran across the hills and bogs from Cummer through Keane's mountain and Shine's bog to the old hedge-school that was in Mc Auliffe's land, in Foiladown.
    The Old Cork Road.
Before the Line Road was built, there was and old road in this district known as The Old Road to Cork. There was only a ditch to one side of this road and there is no trace of it there now, except in Michael Sullivan's land, where the old ditch is still to be seen. This old road ran through Cornelius Curtin's land in Stagmount, on by the back of Tim Curtin's shop, through Michael Sullivan's land in Lyreneague, across to Meentinna, where it went through Mrs. Cronin's farm and on through the White Hill to the Cummer Road.
It was a hard road for a horse to draw a load, for it was all up hill and down hollow. The old car-men travelled this road to Cork with butter
