    It is during Shrove most people get married in the district. On Shrove Tuesday night pancakes are eaten at the supper. On Ash Wednesday the people used to have the black fast.
    The First Sunday of Lent was known as "Chalk" Sunday as on that day the people chalk those who were of age and did not marry during Shrove. The second Sunday of Lent is known as "Mothering" Sunday, because on that day the married daughters of a family visit the homes of their parents. Each of them
