- (continued from previous page)used was Primer, and the second book was "Reading made Easy". The subjects taught were:- Grammar, Sums, English writing and reading and spelling.
- There was a hedge school at Glountane Cross. It was an "in and out" school. The teacher used go to each boy's house in his turn and stay there for the night. English Grammar and Geography were taught and also the Primer. The old people used to write with a piece of a stone called blackslate.
