    Mrs Kitty O'Connell (née Kelleher) of Farrankeal aged 80 gave me an account of their eviction and some interesting recollections of her youth.

    they had a servant girl for that wage and she drew the lime on her back for all their fields in Knockeenagullane. When in Lacka - na Stooke they had four and five workmen who worked for a shilling a day. They (her people) built cabins for their workmen and although the men remained with them for years they went through the form of getting possession of the cabins every Lady Day - the fire was put out and the workmen and families left the house closing the door after them. Her father then came and took a bit of the thatch and handed it it each. He (the father) opened the door and allowed the 'tenants' in. He deducted some money from their wages for the houses and they got a ridge or two for garden and other things and he charged something for that. She often saw him putting a mark on little sticks which she heard called "Score-sticks" but she did not know what they were for but there were five or six of them in the house - hanging on the wall. Her father bought a farm near Knocknagree (from another Kelleher man) and she lived there
