  1. There are many customs associated with feast days. There is a custom to make PAN-CAKES ON SHROVE TUESDAY, to eat plenty before Lent would come. On EASTER SUNDAY eggs are eaten as a sigh of plenty after Lent. The gardens are sprinkled with holy water on ASCENSION THURSDAY so that they would grow well. Bonfires are lighted on ST JOHN'S NIGHT in honour of St. John and also the middle of Summer. On NOVEMBER'S NIGHT there is a snap apple and the burning of nuts a custom which dates from Pagan times. On CHRISTMAS NIGHT there is a big supper for it is thought that if people have enough at Christmas they will have enough all the following year. On ST. BRIGETS day it is a custom for the young boys of the parish to go from house to house
