   The old people in this district used go to a well in the Co Kerry at the foot of Caherbarnagh mountain and sometimes drove their cattle there to drink out of the well They depended more than in that water than in the holy water from the chapel. This well is known as the "City Well".
   Crosses used also be made to wear on St Patrick's Day. These used to be made from cardboard which used to be coloured with paints. They used to be worn until Lady Day and then burned. Long ago on St Brigid's night in every house people used put out a handkerchief or coat and let it out all night. Then if a sheep would not take with her lamb this coat or handkerchief would be put over her back and it was always proved on such occasions that she would always take with her lamb afterwards. Holly is always used for decorations at Xmas. On Palm Sunday the blessed palm is always put up in the kitchen and in the bedroom in honour of the feast and it is supposed to protect the house from burning or from any other calamity during the year. It is said to be unlucky to bring a branch of hawthorn into the house during the month of May. If a person finds a horse-shoe lost they usually hang it up on the wall for good luck.
